Rear Adm. Matthew Klunder, chief of naval research, delivers remarks during the christening ceremony for the Auxiliary General Oceanographic Research (AGOR) research vessel (R/V) Sally Ride (AGOR 28). Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Ray Mabus named the ship to honor the memory of Sally Ride, a scientist, innovator, educator, and the first American woman and the youngest person in space. Ride later served as director of NASA's Office of Exploration as well as the California Space Institute at University of California San Diego. The ship is owned by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and will be operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography. (U.S. Navy photo by John F. Williams/Released)
