Lance Cpl. Wayne Brinkley and Cpl. Kenneth Bowen lay down suppressive fire during a weapons training exercise, Dec. 12, in the Helmand province of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Brinkley is a Tube-Launched, Optically tracked, Wired-guided missile gunner and Bowen is a vehicle commander with Combined Anti-Armor Team, Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment. 3/8 is the ground combat element of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force - Afghanistan, whose mission is to conduct counterinsurgency operations, and train and mentor the Afghan national police.
