Marines with Border Transition Team 4222 wave goodbye to their Iraqi counterparts at the end of the day at Border Fort Nine, Iraq, on Oct. 27, 2008. They are alone, but they are not afraid. They are the 13 Marines and one Sailor of BTT 4222, and their mission is train, mentor and advise the Iraqi border police battalion that is split into nine border forts scattered across approximately 140 kilometers of the Syrian border. Regular patrols are conducted to visit each fort at least 14 times a month. Marines hold classes for and advise the personnel at each fort.
