Drill instructor Sgt. Nathan McLain orders new recruits of Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion to respond loudly and confidently to orders Jan. 27, 2014, shortly after their arrival to Parris Island, S.C. McLain, 26, from Fence, Wis., is one of a handful of drill instructors responsible for preparing recruits for training. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate April 25, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training.
