Following torrential rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Ike, The Indiana National Guard was called upon to assist civilian authorities in evacuating people from the flooded community of Munster, Ind. Staff Sgt. Travis Hackett with the 738th Medical Company out of Monticello, Ind., assisted by a member of the Munster Fire Department, successfully navigate the dark and slippery stairwells of the flooded nursing home. It became necessary to evacuate the more than 150 patients from the Munster Med-Inn and redirect them to neighboring hospitals.
