    Auxiliary Boatcrew Training

As his PFD (personal flotation device), rises towards his head before coming off, while swimming, Coast Guard Auxiliarist Russ Magnuson (l) learns what happens when wearing an improperly sized PFD. The lesson was part of a boatcrew training session, conducted by Auxiliary mentors Joseph P. Cirone of Occoquan, VA Flotilla 14-06 and Robert Happel of Washington, DC Flotilla 21 on October 11, 2003 in Woodbridge, VA. During the lesson, the boatcrew trainees were taught how to properly select and don the correct size PFD, and why doing so is important. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary boatcrews are trained to high standards, using the Coast Guard?s Boat Crew Seamanship Manual and Boat Crew Qualifications Guide. USCG photo by Joseph P.
