Essexville, Mich. - Petty Officer 3rd Class Jeremy Timothy (right), of the New London, Conn.- based Coast Guard Cutter Morro Bay, pulls a fellow Coast Guardsman out of the water while practicing ice-rescue techniques during the first day of a four-day training school at the Coast Guard Ice Capabilities Center of Excellence at Station Saginaw River in Essexville Jan. 25, 2011. Although the Morro Bay's crew wouldn't ordinarily conduct ice rescues in the Atlantic Ocean, the cutter is assisting with ice breaking operations in the Great Lakes this winter, and the crew has to know how to rescue someone should they fall through the ice near the cutter.
