ASTORIA, Ore. - A Coast Guard 47-foot motor lifeboat crew comprised of members from smallboat stations throughout the Thirteenth District trains at Umpqua River near Winchester Bay, Ore., as surf crashes over the nearby jetty Jan. 18, 2011.
This class, which was also taught at Coast Guard Station Siuslaw River, gives boat drivers from within the district the opportunity to practice and maintain their skills in the heavy surf conditions notorious to the Pacific Northwest.
