Since the commissioning of the current Escanaba (WMEC 907), every year on the anniversary, the crew would gather for a remembrance of the first Escanaba and the commanding officer would contact Mr. Ray O'Malley and report that the crew is healthy, the ship is in excellent condition and the 'Spirit Lives On' until his passing on March 8, 2007.
