    U. S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Chris Wrightson, Petty Officer 3rd Class Aaron Smith, Fireman Eli Stewart and Petty Officer 3rd Class Travis McMichael, from Coast Guard Station Pascagoula, Miss., conduct a Green, Amber, Red (G.A.R.) model March 11, 2009, prior to getting underway.

G.A.R. is an assessment of six categories: supervision, planning, team selection, team fitness, environment, and event/evolution complexity. The team assesses each category individually with zero being no risk and ten being the highest risk. Those numbers are then added and become green, red or amber depending on the total. This assessment lets the team know what categories need to be closely monitored.
