Boatswain Mate First Class Edgar Culbertson is pictured at the Duluth Lifeboat Station. Shortly after this picture, BM1 Culbertson lost his life during a rescue at the entrance to the Duluth Harbor on Lake Superior. He was posthumously awarded the Coast Guard Medal, the nation's highest peace time award.
