SAN FRANCISCO, (July 23, 2008) The Coast Guard Cutter Eagle passes under the Golden Gate Bridge earlier today on its way to the staging area in preparation for the Parade of Sail. The Eagle led 35 tall ships into the San Francisco Bay. It has been in service with the Coast Guard since 1946 following World War II and is a training platform for cadets and officer candidates to learn leadership, teamwork, seamanship and navigation skills. The Eagle is visiting San Francisco and five other west coast ports including San Diego, Los Angeles, Astoria, Tacoma and Victoria British, Columbia.
