The 210-foot medium endurance Coast Guard Cutter VIGILANT. This is the 12th cutter to bear the name VIGILANT, dating back to 1790 when the original VIGILANT was built for the Revenue Cutter Service. This youngest VIGILANT was commissioned on Oct. 3, 1964, at Todd Shipyard in Houston, Texas. The ship cost $2.3 million. From 1964 through 1989 VIGILANT was homeported in New Bedford, Mass. In 1989, the cutter underwent an 18-month Major Maintenance Availability to modernize its capabilities. In 1990, VIGILANT moved its homeport to Port Canaveral, Fla.
