EMTs are the keystone of Coast Guard medical emergency responses. The capability to sustain the life of those who have been rescued is just as important as searching for and rescuing survivors. Effective first response/emergency medical care does not come easily, and requires initial training, ongoing continuing education, frequent drills, equipment maintained to manufacturers specifications, and a commitment to excellence and caring.
