A Coast Guardsman applies mouth- to-mouth resuscitation to a victim of a fire at sea. The Coast Guard 44-foot motor surf boat in the background goes to pick up another survivor. Crewmembers trained in firefighting will take the lead to extinguish the flames while the remaining crew will see to the safety, rescue and injuries of the distressed sailors. While the crew's primary concern is the rescue of those aboard the vessel, the crew also watches for any possible threat to the environment from oil spills and the release of other dangerous contaminants.
