The Joint Task Force-Armed Forces Inaugural Committee Component Commanders Army Maj. Gen. Galen Jackman, Air Force Brig. Gen. Duane Lodrige, Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Willie Williams, Navy Reserve Rear Adm. Jamie Barnett, Air Force Col. Duane Jones, Coast Guard Rear Adm. Richard Houck lead off the 55th Presidential Inaugural Parade Jan. 20, 2005, in Washington, D.C. Military involvement in the presidential inauguration is a centuries-old tradition in which the Armed Forces celebrate democracy, honor thenew commander in chief, and recognize civilian control of the military. This tradition dates back to 1789, when members of the United States Army escorted George Washington to his swearing-in ceremony at Federal Hall in New York City. DoD SSgt JenniferGangemi, Air Force.
