JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 27, 2004)--Rebecca Almeida from the National Oceanic and Atmosheric Administration (NOAA) explains the role of a NOAA weather buoy to Seaman Jose Garcia July 27, 2004 20 miles off the coast of Cape Canaveral, Fla. The weather buoy measures and records wind speed and direction, water temperature among other weather conditions. Information gathered form buoys like this can by very useful to the Coast Guard and NOAA in helping track severe weather such as hurricanes or tropical stroms. USCG photo by PA3 Bobby Nash
