PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (April 27, 2004)-- -- U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Jeff S. Cornelius, a small arms instructor for Maritime Safety and Security Team 91104 based in Galveston, Texas, watches as Paul Soguel, with the Haitian coast guard, practices firing his weapon at the Haitian police academy range April 28. Though they carry weapons daily, most Haitian coast guard members had only been to the range during their initial training, which for some was more than two years ago.
Maritime Safety and Security Team 91104 out of Galveston, Texas, is here training members of the Haitian coast guard. The training should enable them to continue to provide security on the water and help stabilize the country.
