PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (April 27, 2004)-- -- Merusma Oriol, a member of the Haitian coast guard, fills out papers to repatriate a Haitian national. More than 650 Haitians lined up at Killick Haitian coast guard base here to be repatriated April 27, after fleeing the country days earlier. Three heavily overloaded boats with few or no lifejackets were carrying 686 migrants when the U.S. Coast Guard found and rescued them.
U.S. Coast Guard forces have been patrolling these waters since early March. They are here supporting Multinational Interim Force-Haiti to assist in stabilizing and securing the country.
