Kentucky River, Kentucky (May 26)--MK1 Matt Gans of the GST logs notes concerning the aerating process on the Kentucky River. Bourbon entering the water from a distillery fire prevented oxygen-levels from sustaining fish life. Gans, on his 40th hour without sleep, drove an 18-wheel tractor trailer truck hauling prime movers and pumps from Alabama to Kentucky and spent the following day working on the river. Members of the strike teams often work hours on end without sleep to ensure an emergency is resonded to without delay. The Environmental Protection Agency requested assistance from the Gulf Strike Team when a distillery spills hundreds of thousands of gallons of bourbon into the river.
