AT SEA--Like most Coast Guard cutters, the Cutter Padre (WPB 1328) is a multi-mission platform capable of performing a variety of maritime missions. PADRE was the 28th Island-class cutter to join the fleet, and is named after Padre Island, located off the coast of Texas, near the city of Corpus Christi. One-hundred foot Island-class patrol boats are a Coast Guard modification of a highly successful British-designed patrol boat. With excellent range and sea-keeping capabilities, the 110 replaced the older 95 foot Cape-class patrol boats. There are presently 49 Island-class patrol boats in the Coast Guard's inventory.
