Lt. Gen. Joseph L. Lengyel, the vice chief of the National Guard Bureau, Maj. Gen Judd H. Lyons, deputy director for the Army National Guard, and Brig. Gen. James D. Campbell, the adjutant general, Maine, receive a briefing from Rob McAleer, the Maine Emergency Management Agency director, Nov. 7 during the Vigilant Guard exercise held here in the state of Maine. All across the state, National Guard soldiers from Maine and New England are responding to simulated natural and man-made disaster scenarios. The exercise tests first responders, emergency management personnel, homeland security teams and around 1,500 National Guard soldiers in order to better prepare for a real, large-scale incident.
