Staff Sgt. Elizabeth Ansley currently serves as a Marine Corps drill instructor with Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. Ansley joined the Marine Corps in July 2002 and became a drill instructor in October 2012. “It is a way for me to personally be able to pay back for all the freedoms and rights that I have today, for everyone who laid their lives down for me,” said Ansley, a 29-year-old El Centro, Calif., native. About 600 Marine Corps drill instructors shape the approximately 20,000 recruits who come to Parris Island annually into basic United States Marines.
