Sgt. Jonathan Owens currently serves as a Marine Corps drill instructor with Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. Owens joined the Marine Corps in November 2006 and became a drill instructor in September 2012. “I became a drill instructor to make sure the legacy of those who have fallen in service to the Corps will go on,” said Owens, a 27-year-old Minneapolis native. About 600 Marine Corps drill instructors shape the approximately 20,000 recruits who come to Parris Island annually into basic United States Marines.
