A woman wearing a maroon shirt, tactical/military backpack, and camouflage pants is leaning forward with an intense, shouting expression toward another individual whose back is to the camera. The setting appears to be an outdoor grassy field during early morning or evening light. The scene strongly suggests a military training or drill instructor context.

Sgt. Amy Blea, 25, currently serves as a Marine Corps drill instructor with Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. Blea joined the Marine Corps in August 2007 and became a drill instructor in September 2012. “I became a drill instructor because I felt like it was an opportunity for me to give back to the Marine Corps everything it has given to me. My favorite part of being a drill instructor is the impact we get to make on the kids … giving them the opportunity to be successful,” said Blea, a Chicago native. About 600 Marine Corps drill instructors shape the approximately 20,000 recruits who come to Parris Island annually into basic United States Marines. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
