The 606th Air Control Squadron attached to Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany,
departed for Southwest Asia in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to
provide air defense of the Arabian Gulf for the next several months. These
are their stories through training, out-processing and leaving loved ones behind
in support of the Air Force mission downrange.
The 606th is a self-sustaining squadron consisting of maintenance, supply
and approximately 19 other specialties. The unit continues to provide daily
command and control to the 480th Fighter Squadron in addition to the occasional control of E-3A Sentry NATO AWACS from NATO Air Base Geilenkirchen and visiting aircraft from around the USAFE U.S. Air Forces in Europe theater of operations.
