KUWAIT — Third Army/U.S. Army Central aviators gathered in Lebanon with their counterparts, Nov. 9-13, for an inaugural aviation seminar.

The meeting was part of Third Army's Theater Security Cooperation program, aimed to strengthen partner nation military capabilities, increase interoperability and promote regional stability.

Participants focused on aviation support of Lebanese Air Force to ground units and Lebanese civilians during humanitarian crises.

Lebanese military officials welcomed Third Army personnel at Beirut Air Base where the seminar began with presentations and discussions on air assault operations by both countries. Lebanese soldiers also demonstrated UH-1 helicopter fast rope and repelling operations. Following the demonstration, the Lebanese team also provided information on integration between ground and air units.

"They are very innovative with their techniques," said Capt. Tonti Boikanyo, Third Army aviation officer, after watching the air assault demonstration.

The seminar shifted from Beirut Air Base to Riyak Air Base where the Third Army Soldiers received a tour of the facilities before discussing air to ground integration with second and third year flight students.

According to Maj. J.T. Lewis, Third Army personnel recovery officer, the trip was a huge success. Just like American aviators, the flight cadets were eager to learn.

Third Army regularly participates in seminars like this one throughout the region extending from Yemen to Kazakhstan. The engagements have proven to be a valuable experience for both Third Army and the partner nations.
