    877th Engineer Battalion

CINCU, Romania -- On July 10, 2016, distinguished guests Col. Robey Brantley, 194th Engineer Brigade Forward Commander, Duration, Resolute Castle 16 officer-in-charge of the Tennessee National Guard and Lt. Col. Nicolae Acasandrei, OPFOR Battalion Commander and acting Cincu Base Commander of the Romanian Land Forces, visited U.S. and Romanian soldiers and assessed the Cincu Training Range during Resolute Castle 16.

As part of Operation Atlantic Resolve, Resolute Castle is a United States Army led mission to strengthen U.S. relations, trust and interoperability with NATO allies and partners. Resolute Castle includes support from a multi-component task force comprised of Active Duty, Reserve, Navy Seabees, and multi-state National Guard forces. Through these partnerships, the interoperability with coalition forces are fortified while working together to improve training sites in Romania, Estonia, Bulgaria, and Hungary.

Cincu Training Range is the primary area of operation in Romania for the Alabama Army National Guard. Priorities of work for the training range at Cincu include tasks spanning from horizontal and vertical construction improvements to military police training. The 877th Engineer Battalion, Alabama Army National Guard, partnered with 10th Engineer Brigade units from the Romanian Land Forces, work to improve infrastructure at Cincu, Romania. The 877th Eng. Bn. falls under the 194th Eng. Bde., Tennessee Army National Guard.

Cincu Training Range has come a long way in its efforts to modernize its capabilities for advanced military training. The training range offers multiple training opportunities which are now being taken advantage of by both U.S. and Romanian forces. Approximately 200 Romanian and American soldiers are scheduled to rotate through for training every three weeks from May until mid-September this year.

Support from U.S. Army Eruope and Joint Task Force East have provided an excellent opportunity to increase interoperability between U.S. and Romanian forces while building alliances to improve readiness and interoperability. Operations at the Cincu training range benefit all militaries involved, as well as the local community, by providing extensive infrastructure projects, humanitarian resources and civilian contracting opportunities. These opportunities will enable the building of trust and strong working relationships and friendships between great NATO allies for many years to come.

Brantley’s made his visit to Cincu Training Range to ensure that project development was on schedule and being executed properly during rotation four. Capt. Jeptha DuBose, engineer, rotation four officer in charge, 186th Engineer Company Commander, Alabama National Guard and his soldiers have marked the half-way point for Resolute Castle 16 operations. Rotation four was able to exceed project deadlines and ultimately set the remaining rotations up for success.

The main priorities of interest for Brantley’s visit were to evaluate the improvement plans and discuss with key leaders the status of all horizontal and vertical construction projects scheduled for Resolute Castle 16 while getting face-to-face interactions with soldiers on the job-site.

Brantley also visited with the Romanian Land Forces soldiers participating in the Cincu Training Range events. Brantley and Acasandrei expressed their sincere gratitude for the contributions of the Alabama Army National Guard and Romanian Land Forces soldiers and high expectations for the completion of Resolute Castle 16.
