Grabbing it by the soldiers, 1st Sgt. Monsanto Jefferson pulls “Bob,” a training dummy, down the hall July 19 so Bob can be loaded on a truck bound for Camp Atterbury, Ind., as Master Sgt. Courtney Palms watches on. Bob and the equipment are headed to Indiana for Vibrant Response 13.2. The exercise will take place July 30 to Aug. 17. VR13.2 is a major training exercise conducted by U.S. Northern Command and led by U.S. Army North (Fifth Army). Bob, considered by many in the Army North training section to be their mascot, always rides with the equipment to and from Camp Atterbury. “He is the last one on the truck when we load and the first one off when we unload,” said John Reaves, a logistics exercise support planner for the Army North training section. Jefferson is the first sergeant for Operations Company, Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, Army North. Palms works in the training section of Army North.
