U.S. Army Lt. Col. Leon Vaupel, from Huntsville, Ala., receives an autograph from Mike Remlinger at Camp As Sayliyah, May 6. Remlinger, a retired baseball pitcher, was joined by Dean Palmer, Tim Salmon and Jeff Nelson to meet U.S. servicemembers at various military installations in southwest Asia. "It's good they came over to show their support for the troops," said Vaupel, a Vietnam veteran who retired in 1998 after 28 years of military service. In 2004 he volunteered for a retiree recall, to return to active duty. "I have been following the Yankees since the early 1950s," said Vaupel after having a baseball signed by Jeff Neslon, a former New York Yankees pitcher who retired during spring training in 2007. "I have a Yankees mouse pad in my office, a watch, a wallet -- I even have a Yankees-branded credit card!" (U.S. Army photo/Dustin Senger)
