Park Ranger Steve Acuff, biologist and natural resources specialist at Cheatham Lake, checks a pine seedling March 27, 2023, that he planted in a mature pine canopy near Cheatham Dam in Ashland City, Tennessee. Acuff, who is also an arborist, singlehandedly planted 1,500 of these pine seedlings in hopes that at least 10 percent of them would survive and thrive to keep the forest viable well into the future.
