The South Dakota National Guard Counterdrug Program receives the Department of Defense Community Drug Awareness Award during the 2012 DoD Red Ribbon Week Awards Ceremony, Oct. 18, at the Hall of Heroes in the Pentagon. Accepting on behalf of the South Dakota Counterdrug program was Army Maj. Gen. Timothy A. Reisch, South Dakota adjutant general; Army Maj. Robert Dejong, South Dakota counterdrug coordinator and Army Master Sgt. Kristi Palmer, South Dakota Civil Operations noncommissioned officer-in-charge. “This is very humbling,” Maj. Robert Dejong said. “I am very proud of our work with the coalitions in South Dakota. Winning this validates that what we are doing is effective.” “Working with coalitions and people who care about their community make South Dakota a great place to live,” Master Sgt. Palmer said. Dr. Laura J. Junor, deputy assistant secretary of Defense Readiness, Retired Maj. Gen. Arthur T. Dean, chairman and CEO Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, and Joseph J. Angello, Jr., director Operational Readiness and Safety, presented the award.
