  • A soldier from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team (BCT), 10th Mountain Division uses Capability Set (CS) 13 equipment at Fort Drum, N.Y., on Oct. 10. The 3rd BCT at Fort Drum and the 4th BCT at Fort Polk, La., were the first to receive CS 13 and are now conducting several months of rigorous training, including classroom courses and hands-on experience with the systems. Through mobile communications technology that connects all echelons of a brigade combat team down to the dismounted Soldier, the CS 13 network will reduce units' reliance on fixed infrastructure, extend the range of communications and improve battlefield awareness at the lowest levels. • Integration and installation efforts on Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles equipped with components of Capability Set (CS) 13 at Space and Naval Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center Atlantic in Charleston, S.C., Capability Set 13 marks the first time the Army is delivering network systems as an integrated communications package that spans the entire Brigade Combat Team (BCT) formation. Two BCTs of the 10th Mountain Division received the first CS 13 vehicles in October. These MRAPs, configured with new tactical radios plus the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) Increment 2 and other CS 13 components, will accompany those brigades when they deploy in 2013. • In January, soldiers with 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (4/10) at Fort Polk, La., receive Joint tactical Radio System Enterprise Network Manager (JENM) outcomes-based training as part of the unit’s Capability Set (CS) 13 New Equipment Training (NET). The Joint Tactical Networking Center (JTNT) trained more than 30 network operators, including S-6 communications personnel, in the planning and configuration of HMS Manpacks, Rifleman Radios and Harris radios (AN/PRC 152A & AN/PRC 117G) using the JENM. 4/10, along with 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, based at Fort Drum, N.Y., were the first two brigades to be fielded with CS 13, the army’s first package of network communications equipment that provides an integrated connectivity throughout the entire Brigade Combat Team (BCT). Following several months of rigorous training, both brigades are slated to deploy with CS 13 systems later this year.
