A U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II from Fort Smith, Ark., departs for home from Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, Oct. 5, 2012. Affectionately called the “Warthog,” the A-10 is a specialized ground-attack aircraft which provides close air support to ground forces operating in Afghanistan.
