U.S. Army Col. David G. Cotter, Area Support Group Qatar commander, officially re-opens the Camp As Sayliyah dining facility, on Nov. 28. After completing over $200,000 in renovations, the facility will compete for its first Philip A. Connelly Award, on Dec. 6. The award is designed to improve food service operations while recognizing the best in the Army. "The upgrades included everything from construction to renovations and decorations," said Chief Warrant Officer Verona Williams, far left, from Columbus, Ga., the installation food service officer. "When I came to Camp As Sayliyah, I wanted to begin redesigning the dining facility. I saw great potential." The installation hosts U.S. Central Command's rest and recuperation pass program for troops serving in Southwest Asia. "I want our rest and recuperation patrons to feel they are in a five-star restaurant. If we earn the Connelly Award, we will be the best Army facility."
