Staff Sgt. Jeremy Smith's wife, Rachel Smith, his parents, Jerry and Sandra Smith, and Maj. Mark Wood, the commanding officer of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, listen to Smith's Bronze Star award citation being read at Ellington Field Joint Armed Forces Reserve Center, April 14. Smith was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star for heroic actions in combat during a tour in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Smith's parents and wife received the Bronze Star on his behalf.
