Brig. Gen. Gary Volesky (left), the deputy commanding general of Maneuver for Combined Task Force-1, congratulates Sgt. Brendan Smitke, a soldier assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, for his achievement of the expert infantry badge, March 30. Smitke is one of 84 soldiers who took part in the ceremony for completing a rigorous course of tests designed so that only the best can share in the wearing of the expert infantry badge.
