Brig. Gen. Gary Volesky (left), the deputy commanding general of Maneuver for Combined Joint Task Force-1, pins the expert infantry badge on Capt. Russel Raikes, a soldier assigned to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, March 30. Raikes is the oldest of the 84 soldiers who were awarded this coveted badge, thus completing his rite of passage in the infantry.
