Lt. Cmdr. Andrew Shinka, Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 7 Operations Officer, and Builder Constructionman Alex Behrends, assigned to NMCB 7’s Delta Company, cut the battalion’s commemorative cake during a Seabee birthday celebration at Kandahar Airfield. Shinka and Behrends are the oldest and youngest Seabees assigned to NMCB 7 and as a longstanding tradition were selected to make the first slice to the ceremonial cake. NMCB 7 and 22nd Naval Construction Regiment held a joint event to celebrate the 70th birthday of the U.S. Navy Seabees. NMCB 7, homeported at Gulfport, Miss., and its detachments are one of two Seabee battalions conducting contingency construction and deconstruction in support of the International Security Assistance Force as part of Task Force Stethem, operating in the U.S. Central Command area of operation.
