LCACs arrive aboard USS Kearsarge

Sailors aboard the USS Kearsarge direct landing craft air cushions into the well deck of the ship at the beginning of Exercise Bold Alligator 2012, Jan. 30. LCACs provide a vital amphibious transportation capability by carrying personnel and heavy equipment from ship to shore and from shore to ship. Since Exercise Bold Alligator 2012 is the largest naval amphibious exercise in the past 10 years, the use of LCACs will enhance the ability of the Navy and Marine Corps’ revitalization of the full range of amphibious operations. The exercise, which will take place from Jan. 30 to Feb. 12 focuses on today’s fight with today’s forces, while showcasing the advantages of seabasing. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Scott L.
