A group of African wild asses eat hay as the sun sets over the Discover and Aid Nature Refuge, Oct. 16. The African wild ass is a wild member of the horse family and is also believed to be the ancestor of the domestic donkey. There are only about 500 African wild asses in the wild living in the deserts of East Africa.
