U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Sean Riordan, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment commanding officer from Montclaire, Va., uses a Ka-Bar kinfe to slice a birthday cake for Marines and sailors of 1/3 and 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment while celebrating the 236th Marine Corps birthday here, Nov. 10. The battalions celebrated the birthday together following the recent arrival of "America's Battalion" in Garmsir. A year ago, 3/3 was near completing a deployment to Nawa District. They've returned to Helmand province to relieve the fellow Hawaii-based 1/3 "Lava Dogs" who began their deployment in April.
