Jones, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment sergeant major from Detroit, and a formation of Marines and sailors from 1/3 and 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, watch the Commandant of the Marine Corps’ birthday message while celebrating the Marine Corps’ 236th birthday here, Nov. 10. The battalions celebrated the birthday together following the recent arrival of “America’s Battalion” in Garmsir. A year ago, 3/3 was nearing the end of a deployment to Nawa District. They’ve returned to Helmand province to relieve the fellow Hawaii-based 1/3 “Lava Dogs,” who began their deployment in April.
