Eric B Shoomaker, 42nd Army Surgeon General, attempt the ceremonial cutting of the cake at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center Closing Ceremony. The Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process is merging Walter Reed Army Medical Center and National Naval Medical Center Bethesda into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Bethesda, MD. This is the first major medical transition of such a large magnitude in United States military history, and allows ARMY, Air Force, Navy, and civilian medical personnel a historic opportunity to work together as one unit in an effort to provide the best care possible for wounded warriors, military members, retirees and their families.
