Lance Cpl. Steven T. Smiley locks his hands around Cpl. Donte L. Ravenell in preparation to throw him during their practice in the wrestling room aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, May 9. Smiley was on deployment with VMA-542 when the All-Marine wrestling coach, Maj. Dan Hicks, seen him and asked him to come to camp. “I went on my yearly scouting tour of the west coast and overseas when I found Smiley in Iwakuni,” said Hicks. “I held a wrestling clinic and he just shined. No one at that clinic could touch Smiley and I told him to get in contact with me when he returned from his deployment.”
