Karl Schmitz, a Corps of Engineers quality assurance representative, checks the elevation of a temporary emergency levee that was recently built in Sawyer, April 16. Schmitz serves as the dredging coordinator for the Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District. He is in North Dakota, for the third consecutive year, assisting the St. Paul District fight extensive flooding across the state. The Corps continues to assist local communities fight the unusually high water this spring.
