Col. Austin E. Renforth, 1st Marine Division chief of staff, and Sgt. Maj. Anthony Sammartino, 1st Marine Division sergeant major, bow their heads in prayer during a morning colors ceremony at Headquarters, 1st Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force building here, Sept. 13. The ceremony was held to honor Maj.Warren Frederick Martin Clemens (ret.), commander of the British Solomon Islands Defense Force in World War II. Clemens, who died at 94, May 31, 2009, and his Melanesian native scouts were vital in providing critical information to the 1st Marine Division about Japanese activity in Guadalcanal.
