Volunteers attach a new backboard at a horseshoe pit at an Eastman Lake campground during National Public Lands Day Sept. 26. Around 165 volunteers showed up at Eastman Lake to celebrate National Public Lands Day and assist with park restoration projects, including planting trees and plants around the park visitor center, loosening pea gravel at children's playgrounds, painting the campground amphitheater screen, and removing dove weed in the campground. Among the volunteers were members of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 29, Troop 99 and Troop127. Once all the projects were completed, food and refreshments were provided to all the volunteers and a raffle was held by the park rangers. "I'd like to thank all the volunteers for their time, all the local donors and sponsors for helping us put on this event," said Doug Plitt, senior ranger for Eastman Lake. "It's a great success every year Id like to thank everyone who participated in today's National Public Lands Day."
