Retired Sgt. Maj. Ray V. Wilburn looks over the inscription on the 1940 memorial column at the Combat Center's Heritage Memorial Park. Wilburn, who joined the Marine Corps in 1939, remembers the 1940s fondly and looks forward to celebrating with friend, family and service members for his 90th birthday on July 1.
