Rct. Zachary Littleton, a 20-year-old native of Guilford, Ind., is currently training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., in hopes of earning the title United States Marine. Littleton is training with Platoon 3101, Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, and is scheduled to graduate Dec. 19, 2014. “I joined the Marine Corps because I made a promise to my grandma when I was 16 that I would be a Marine,” said Littleton, who graduated from East Central High School in 2013 in Saint Leon, Ind. “It was always our dream. My grandpa was in the Air Force, and she always wanted to see me go into the military, and I had always wanted to be a Marine, so it was her dream to see me succeed. When she passed away three years ago, I felt it was my job to see it through.” Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
